November 9 is Ukrainian Day in Romania. On this occasion, the Ukrainian Union of Romania organized, on November 8-10, 2019 in Bucharest, a series of scientific and cultural events. 

       On Friday, the International Conference "Ukrainians in Romania - History, Contemporaryity and Perspectives" debuted on the following sections: literature and culture, intercultural dialogue, ethnographic interference. Guests from Romania and Ukraine participated on this event. The Conference was followed by an artistic spectacle sustained by artistic groups and soloists from Romania and Ukraine. The artists impressed the present audience with their Ukrainian songs, dances and poems.

       Greeting messages were addressed by: deputy Nicolae Miroslav Petreţchi - President of the Ukrainian Union of Romania, Bogdan Gheorghiu - Minister of Culture and National Identities, Oleksandr Bankov - Ambassador of Ukraine to Romania, Victor Micula - State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Eniko Katalin Lacziko - Secretary of the Department for Interethnic Relations of the Government, deputy Andi-Gabriel Grosaru - President of the Italian Association of Romania, Eugen Cojocariu - General Secretary of Radio Romania International, Volodymyr Antoficiuk - University professor at "Iuri Fedkovych" State University of Cernăuţi, Vasile Captaru - Coordinator Ukrainian section of the RRI, Mihai Traista - President of UUR-Bucharest, Ioan Herbil-President of UUR-Сluj, Miroslav Petreţchi - President of UUR-Maramureş and Liuba Horvat - General Secretary of the UUR. On this ocasion were read the congratulation letters from: the Presidential Administration were read, Babes-Bolyai University from Cluj-Napoca, Satu Mare County Museum, Ministry of Education and Research.

        During the show dedicated to the Day of the Ukrainian Language in Romania, the audience was enchanted by an extraordinary performance from: the Choir of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church from Sighetu Marmaţie, Maramureş, the instrumental-vocal formation "Trio Hrin" from Timiş, the student choir of the UUR-Cluj Branch, the "Cervona Kalena" dance ensemble from Negost evolved Suceava, the mixed choir "Ronianski holose" and "Holos Polonene" from Maramureş, the male vocal group "Holos Polonene" from Poienile de sub Munte, Maramureş, the fanfara "Florile Bucovina", the dance group "Spring" and the soloist Vasile Scutelnicu from Botosani, Choir "Voice of Ukrainians" from Caraș-Severin, vocal-instrumental band "Cervona Kalyna" from Maramures, vocal group "Crinul" from Arad, vocal group "Tysianochka" from Buştino and Ukrainian academic, folkloric and ethnographic ensemble "Kalyna" from Kiev, Ukraine. The event was hosted by students Veronica Haureliac and Tina Komar. The International Conference "Ukrainians in Romania - History, Contemporaryity and Perspectives", initiated by the writer and the president of the UUR Culture Commission, Mihai Traista, continued the day with debates on sections and book launches, published this year by the Ukrainian Union of Romania.

        The partners of the events were the Ukrainian Embassy in Romania, the Faculty of Letters, Babeș-Bolyai University, the Satu Mare County Museum, the Romanian Television and Radio Romania International. 

        We remind that the legislative proposal of the deputy of the UUR, Nicolae Miroslav Petreţchi, regarding the declaration of November 9 as a Day of the Ukrainian Language in Romania, was adopted by the Chamber of Deputies on July 4, 2018.
